How Hospitals Can Fight The Cost of Budget-Busting Drugs

Healthcare Dive reported on rising drug costs and their impact on hospital budgets. According to a study by the Federation of American Hospitals and the American Hospital Association, high drug price increases “had either a moderate or severe impact on more than 90% of the budgets of hospitals surveyed.” Some have already started implementing plans. “Intermountain Healthcare, for example, purchases medications in bulk in partnership with its supply chain organization. It provides medications in a lower unit of measure to sites within its system to minimize waste, and centralizes functions to capture efficiency and economies of scale. … It also participates in the 340B Drug Pricing Program.”
